Performing Arts IB
Numerous media on television, radio and press have interviewed the dancer, actor and singer Víctor Ullate Roche and the actress and singer Nuria Sánchez, responsible for the International Artistic Baccalaureate project oriented to the Performing Arts that Agora International School Madrid launches for the following year. Both emphasize that the selection of students will be made through auditions and personal interviews and the selection criteria will not be so much the previous level of the candidates as the vocation to make the stage their profession.
The project, a pioneer in Spain, arose when Víctor Ullate Roche directed the higher degree of Performing Arts at the Superior Center for Performing Arts ESCAENA. There, Ullate Roche discovered that many students arrived without any previous preparation and decided to solve that gap with a specific baccalaureate of the branch, which has ended up materializing at Agora International School Madrid, a center with which it has already collaborated for six years teaching extracurricular classes within the complete creative arts plan of the school.
Víctor Ullate Roche, Nuria Sánchez and the school’s head, Gerard O’Donnell, are very excited about this new project, which brings the study of the performing arts closer to International Baccalaureate students to open many doors for them when it comes to accessing this world that a priori may seem difficult, with subjects such as Rhythms, Musical Styles or Theatrical Representation and culminating in a musical by the students and under the direction of the professionals who trained the dancers of the musical Billy Elliot.
The head of Agora International School Madrid explains that the Performing Arts itinerary will take place in the center’s International Baccalaureate program because it allows for greater flexibility in curricular design and has an evaluation system more appropriate for artistic disciplines. The school hopes to be able to teach this International Artistic Baccalaureate in person, although it has a robust contingency plan to carry it out electronically if emergency situations such as those experienced in recent months occur.
