More Than a Game: Our Students Experience Olympism and Paralympism at Universidad Europea

At Agora Madrid International School, we believe that education goes far beyond the classroom. That’s why activities such as “More Than a Game: Experience Olympism and Paralympism,” organised by Universidad Europea, offer a unique opportunity for our students to experience the true values of sport in a practical and meaningful way.

During the day, students were divided into small groups and took part in various sports stations, where they had the chance to try disciplines such as basketball, athletics and adapted athletics, volleyball, gymnastics, climbing and Goalball — a sport closely linked to the Paralympic movement. Each station was designed not only to teach technique, but also to reinforce fundamental values such as teamwork, empathy, perseverance and respect.

Our students also shared this experience with pupils from other schools in Villaviciosa de Odón, competing and interacting with them throughout all the activities. The event stood out for its positive atmosphere, sportsmanship and collaborative spirit, fostering friendship and respect among students from different schools.

What made the experience even more enriching was that students not only practised sport, but also learned about inclusion and diversity in a truly hands-on way. Trying out adapted sports gave them the chance to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and appreciate the importance of accessibility and respect for everyone.

The day concluded with an inspiring talk from a Paralympic athlete, who shared their story and encouraged our students to value discipline, resilience and passion for sport. Moments like these are essential for helping students understand that a well-rounded education combines knowledge, skills and values that will accompany them throughout their lives.

Activities like this strengthen our commitment to providing a comprehensive education, where students learn to work as a team, face challenges and embrace diversity, integrating Olympism and Paralympism as powerful educational tools that inspire and transform.
