Primary Education

At Primary level the curriculum becomes slightly more academic and is designed to promote core values such as socialisation, cultural diversity and self-awareness. Students get the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of exciting activities and events, all designed to facilitate and advance the learning process.Agora Madrid International School is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Agora Madrid believes is important for our students. At Agora Madrid the primary curriculum enhances the children’s mental and intellectual capacities and the learning process is constructive and cooperative with a focus on encouraging the creative and independent thinking that makes each child unique. By the end of the primary stage children at Agora Madrid are mature, polite, responsible, confident in themselves and supportive of one another. Throughout primary school, we continue to adapt teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of each individual child, in particular for those children who are experiencing difficulties with the learning process and may therefore require a little more support in order to achieve their personal and academic goals.

Our approach

In the Primary Education Department at Agora Madrid International School, bilingualism continues to be central to the success of our curriculum. All subjects are taught in English except for Spanish Language and Mathematics. Primary students are in an exciting phase of personal growth and self-discovery; they begin to identify areas of strength and weakness, learn new skills, develop greater powers of self-expression and comprehension, improve their skill levels in reading, writing and maths and expand and develop their talents in art, musical and creative disciplines. Children also begin to learn more about social interaction, establish better work and study habits, and start to make conscious decisions about the sort of person that they want to be and the values that they will adopt for the future; children begin to lay the foundations for the adult that they will grow into. At Agora Madrid International School, we help to guide our pupils successfully through this period of their lives by means of an educational programme that promotes physical, emotional, intellectual and social well-being, positive communication and better coexistence.

The core foundation of Agora Madrid’s educational vision during Primary Education is excellence in languages, music, art and sports, and an education in values. With regards to music, all children start learning the violin in the first year of Primary; students participate in concerts and musical events and are accompanied by the school choir.

A positive home/school relationship is crucial to the success of each child’s education at Primary level. Communication with families is continual, and we provide regular updates on academic progress, social integration and any issues that might impact upon a child’s academic or personal progress or happiness. Many measures are in place to facilitate a successful and proactive relationship between home and school, including contact with the child’s form tutor or head of year, diary entries, academic reports, telephone calls, meetings or communication via digital platforms. We believe that a positive and proactive relationship between home and school helps to ensure the smooth and successful progress of our primary pupils.

Primary Education is a stage of personal, academic and social growth and it is not enough to just acquire knowledge in a given subject; children need variety, stimulation and enthusiasm and need to feel that they are moving forward with their learning and that their work has a clearly defined purpose. The curriculum, co-curricular disciplines, the students themselves and their teachers are all directed towards achieving a common goal. Quality and excellence combined with constructive feedback keep our students moving forward and achieving the best possible outcomes academically, socially and personally.
